About Electronics Information

Electronics Information evaluates your understanding of electrical and electronic concepts. Questions cover basic electrical theory (voltage, current, resistance), circuit components (resistors, capacitors, transistors), Ohm's Law, power calculations, and practical electronics knowledge. On the CAT-ASVAB, you have approximately 8 minutes for 15 questions. While EI does not contribute to the AFQT score, it is a key component of the EL (Electronics) composite line score, which is required for many technical military jobs in communications, radar, avionics, and computer systems.

Topics Covered

Voltage, Current & Resistance
Ohm's Law
Series & Parallel Circuits
Electrical Power & Energy
Capacitors & Inductors
Semiconductors & Transistors

Basic Digital Electronics

Sample Questions

Sample Question 1
What type of electricity is produced by batteries?
  • AC
  • DC
  • Static
  • Magnetic
Batteries produce DC (Direct Current), which flows in one direction.
Sample Question 2
What color is the hot wire in US electrical systems?
  • Green
  • White
  • Black
  • Blue
In US systems, black (or red) is the hot wire.
Sample Question 3
A 12V battery is connected to three 4Ω resistors in series. What is the current in the circuit?
  • 0.5 A
  • 1 A
  • 3 A
  • 12 A
Total resistance = 4 + 4 + 4 = 12Ω. Current I = V/R = 12/12 = 1 A.

Study Tips for Electronics Information

Master Ohm's Law

V = IR is the foundation of electronics. Know how to calculate voltage, current, and resistance in both series and parallel circuits.

Learn Circuit Symbols

Be able to read basic circuit diagrams. Know the symbols for resistors, capacitors, batteries, switches, and ground.

Understand Power Calculations

Know the power formula P = VI and its variations. Many questions involve calculating watts, amps, or volts.
