About Electronics Information

Electronics Information evaluates your understanding of electrical and electronic concepts. Questions cover basic electrical theory (voltage, current, resistance), circuit components (resistors, capacitors, transistors), Ohm's Law, power calculations, and practical electronics knowledge. On the CAT-ASVAB, you have approximately 8 minutes for 15 questions. While EI does not contribute to the AFQT score, it is a key component of the EL (Electronics) composite line score, which is required for many technical military jobs in communications, radar, avionics, and computer systems.

Topics Covered

Sample Questions

Sample Question 1
What is the resonant frequency of an LC circuit?
  • f = 1/(2π√LC)
  • f = 2πLC
  • f = L/C
  • f = C/L
The resonant frequency of an LC circuit is f = 1/(2π√LC).
Sample Question 2
What is the frequency of standard US household electricity?
  • 50 Hz
  • 60 Hz
  • 100 Hz
  • 120 Hz
US household electricity runs at 60 Hz (cycles per second).
Sample Question 3
What component is used to convert AC to DC in most electronic devices?
  • Transformer only
  • Rectifier with capacitor
  • Resistor
  • Inductor only
A rectifier converts AC to pulsing DC, and a capacitor smooths it into steady DC.

Study Tips for Electronics Information

Master Ohm's Law

V = IR is the foundation of electronics. Know how to calculate voltage, current, and resistance in both series and parallel circuits.

Learn Circuit Symbols

Be able to read basic circuit diagrams. Know the symbols for resistors, capacitors, batteries, switches, and ground.

Understand Power Calculations

Know the power formula P = VI and its variations. Many questions involve calculating watts, amps, or volts.
